The Cape Playhouse at the Cape Cod Center for The Arts has announced the lineup for its 2024 season, which promises recent Broadway hits and past gems.
Kicking off the season will be tick, tick...BOOM!, running June 5–15. Jonathan Larson's semi-autobiographical musical (which was adapted into a 2021 film starring Andrew Garfield) explores the life of an artist and the sacrifices one makes to continue creating. Eric Rosen will direct.
Million Dollar Quartet will follow, returning to the venue June 19–July 6. Tony nominee Hunter Foster will direct the work, which dramatizes a 1956 recording session at a Memphis studio that featured Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Next up is Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, running July 10–August 3. Joyce Chittick and David Ruttura will direct and choreograph the jukebox musical that chronicles the coming-of-age story of the titular singer-songwriter.
Waitress, with direction by Eric Rosen, will play the Massachusetts theatre August 7-24. The hit musical exploring friendship, hope, and new beginnings features original music and lyrics by Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles.
The season will close out John Buchan's whodunit The 39 Steps, running August 28–September 7. Based on Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film of the same name, the fast-paced mystery will feature a cast of four playing 150 roles. Kimberly Senior will direct.
