The Marvelous Wonderettes officially welcomes American Idol and Hairspray alum Diana DeGarmo to the cast of the Off-Broadway revival June 2. The star stepped in for Kathy Brier on May 25 and is set to perform through July 31.

The Marvelous Wonderettes, produced by Tom and Michael D’Angora, officially opened April 28 following performances that began March 24 at New York’s Theatre Row. The cast of the 1950's-set high school musical comedy currently features Christina Bianco, Jenna Leigh Green, Sally Schwab and Laura Woyasz. DeGarmo plays the role of Suzy Simpson, known as the “bubble blowing Wonderette,” who sings such hits as “Stupid Cupid,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “Rescue Me” and “Respect.”

“I am excited and honored for the chance to sing the music of the iconic women I grew up idolizing, alongside three fabulous and funny gals in The Marvelous Wonderettes,” commented DeGarmo in an earlier statement. “We are gonna have one heck of a time and y'all won't want to miss it!”

Created, written and originally directed by Roger Bean, the previous New York production played at Off-Broadway's Westside Theatre September 2008-January 2010. Here's how the show is billed: The Marvelous Wonderettes takes a cotton-candied colored musical trip down memory lane to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet The Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! We experience their lives and loves from prom night to their 10-year reunion as told through more than 20 chart topping hits of the era!

Tickets can be purchased at The Theatre Row box office, located at 410 W. 42nd St., Manhattan, or through Telecharge.com.
