Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo, who made his Broadway debut in 2011 in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, will return to the Main Stem July 19 in the Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theatre.
Matarazzo will step into the role of Jared Kleinman the same day the company welcomes the return of three other actors: Ann Sanders (The Music Man, Frozen) as Cynthia Murphy, Noah Kieserman as Connor Murphy, and Ciara Alyse Harris as Alana Beck. Kieserman and Harris come to Broadway from the musical's national tour.
“Words could never express how truly honored I am to be a part of this company,” Matarazzo said in a statement. “This show has taught me so much about myself and to be able to participate in any capacity, let alone on Broadway, makes me want to melt. I am ecstatic to be back on stage and eternally grateful for the opportunity.”
Matarazzo was last seen on Broadway in 2014 in the revival of Les Misérables.
The company is currently headed by Zachary Noah Piser in the title role with Talia Simone Robinson, Jessica Phillips, Christiane Noll, David Jeffery, Manoel Felciano, Jared Goldsmith, and Phoebe Koyabe, with Linedy Genao, Nathan Levy, Mateo Lizcano, Dan Macke, Jane Pfitsch, D’Kaylah Unique Whitley, Asa Somers, Josh Strobl, and Nicole Van Giesen.
Following Piser’s run, Stephen Christopher Anthony, who currently plays the lead in the North American tour, will join the Broadway company as Evan beginning August 9. Sam Primack, who made his Broadway debut as an Evan cover, will take over the role beginning September 6.
