See Broadway's New Outsiders Take Their 1st Bow

An array of new principal performers—led by John Proctor is the Villain's Noah Pacht as Ponyboy—took over March 17.

Grease has sure got a hold on them! A new Broadway cast for The Outsiders began performances March 17, and Playbill has an up-close-and-personal look at their first Broadway bow.

The new cast is led by Noah Pacht (John Proctor is the Villain) as Ponyboy Curtis, Caleb Mathura (The Notebook) as Johnny Cade, SeQuoiia as Dallas Winston, Dan Berry as Darrel Curtis, Sutton James Kaylor as Sodapop Curtis, Nicholas McDonough (Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies) as Bob, and Victor Carrillo Tracey as Paul. They have joined continuing original Broadway cast members Emma Pittman as Cherry Valance and Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit.

Also new to the company as of March 17 are Runako Campbell (The Great Gatsby) as Ace, Abby Matsusaka as Beverly, Alejandro MullerDahlberg (& Juliet) as Steve, and Logan Gray Saad (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Marcia, along with new swings Brandon Lee Jordan, Derek Jordan Taylor (The Great Gatsby), and Wes Williams (The Great Gatsby).

Currently running at the Jacobs Theatre on Broadway where the musical opened April 11, 2024, The Outsiders is adapted from S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film adaptation. Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, the musical follows Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders," who are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. The musical features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine and music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine.

The Outsiders won the Best Musical Tony Award as well as Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim), and Sound Design (Cody Spencer) at the 2024 Tony Awards.

The Broadway production also features music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Levine; choreography by Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman; scenography by AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian; costume design by Sarafina Bush; Tony-winning lighting design by Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim; Tony-winning sound design by Cody Spencer; and music direction by Matt Hinkley. Casting is by The TRC Company's Xavier Rubiano.
