Stage and screen actor-director Stanley Tucci will make his London stage directorial debut with Springwood at Hampstead Theatre in London. Performances will run June 19-July 25, 2026 on the company's Main Stage.

Written by Richard Nelson (The Apple Family Plays), the world premiere work centers on the 1939 meeting between King George VI and President Franklin Roosevelt, an event that set the stage for the alliances of World War II. The project is a commission of producer Colin Callender, with Hampstead presenting the premiere by arrangement with Callender's Playground.

Tickets are available at HampsteadTheatre.com.

“After years of working closely with Colin on finding the right home for Springwood, I am excited to be bringing this play to such an intimate theatre as Hampstead, and with such an extraordinary artist as Stanley, as its director,” says Nelson in a statement.

“Richard Nelson’s masterful Springwood is a timely study of what we expect from our leaders, as well as being a very amusing clash of English and American manners," adds Callender. "At times funny, moving, and poignant, the play is Richard at his very best. Having worked with Stanely Tucci before, I can attest to his artistry and leadership, we are so lucky to have him as our director. I can’t wait for audiences to see this play.”

Tucci is primarily known as a screen actor, with performances in such films as The Devil Wears PradaSpotlightThe Lovely Bones, and Captain America: The First Avenger. He wrote, directed, and starred in Big Night in 1996, and wrote and directed 2017's Final Portrait. On Broadway, he's acted in The Queen and the RebelsThe MisanthropeThe Iceman ComethExecution of Justice, and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune; and directed Lend Me a Tenor.
