Broadway's Golden Theatre has been booked by The Encounter, Simon McBurney’s one-man play based on the true story of a photographer who finds himself lost among the remote people of the Javiri Valley, on the border of Brazil and Peru, in 1959.

Previews will begin September 20 with an opening night set for September 29. The Golden's current occupant, Eclipsed, is scheduled to end its limited engagement June 19.

Richard Katz will play the role at selected performances.

The Encounter, which was co-produced with McBurney's company Complicite, the Barbican and other international partners, bowed last summer at the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival. McBurney is listed as director, conceiver and star, with Kirsty Housley listed as co-director. The Encounter was inspired by the novel Amazon Beaming by Petru Popescu.

The rest of the creative team consists of Michael Levine (design), Gareth Fry and Pete Malkin (sound), Paul Anderson (lighting), Will Duke (projection) and Jemima James (associate director). The show is being produced on Broadway by Richard Frankel, Tom Viertel, Steven Baruch, Marc Routh, Douglas Meyer, James D. Stern, Barbara & Alan D. Marks, Ian Bentley, Jim Kierstead and Becca Davies.

Barbican spokesperson Bridget Thornborrow told Playbill.com that the production is headed for a U.S. tour and gave the following tour dates:

March 30-April 1, 2017 at the Power Center, Ann Arbor, MI

April 6-16, 2017 at the Wallis Annenberg Center, Los Angeles

Further dates are to be announced.
