Casting has been revealed for Pasadena Playhouse's upcoming Los Angeles premiere of Adam Rapp's The Sound Inside, set to play the California theatre September 6-October 1. Cameron Watson is directing.
Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy) will star as Bella Lee Baird, sharing the stage with Anders Keith (Frasier revival) as Christopher Dunn. Casting is by RBT Casting's Ryan Bernard Tymensky.
Set amidst the ivy-covered walls of Yale, The Sound Inside centers on a fateful encounter between a writing professor and a mysterious student that could change both their lives. The work premiered in 2018 at Williamstown Theatre Festival, coming to Broadway the following year. Mary-Louise Parker won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance as Bella.
Pasadena's production will feature scenic design by Tesshi Nakagawa, costume design by Danyele E. Thomas, lighting design by Jared A. Sayeg, and sound design by Jeff Gardner. Alyssa Escalante is stage manager, and David S. Franklin is assistant stage manager.
"The Sound Inside by Adam Rapp is one of the most beautiful, thrilling, and unexpected plays I have read in a very long time," says Watson in a statement. "You've never seen or experienced anything like it before. We have assembled not only the best designers in Southern California, but the astounding duo of Amy Brenneman and Anders Keith to bring this gripping play to vivid life on the glorious Pasadena Playhouse stage."
