Ready your fishnets, NYC! The North American touring celebration of cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show—adapted from the West End and Broadway stage favorite The Rocky Horror Show—has set a performance at New York City's The Town Hall for November 3. The performance will feature a screening of the 1975 film with some of the original stars on hand, live and in person.
Film stars Barry Bostwick (Brad Majors), Nell Campbell (Columbia), and Patricia Quinn (Magenta) have been visiting more than 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada, giving audiences in each city the opportunity to meet the notables and participate in a costume contest. The performances also feature a live local shadow cast performance, who perform scenes from the movie "live" on stage while the full un-edited film is shown behind them.
Said Bostwick in an earlier statement, “Rocky has changed lives, not just ours, and had a profound effect on how we accept our differences in this world. We were fitted for our corsets and high heels and enthusiastically started singing songs that have endured for all these years. And 'dammit Janet'! I have made nerds cool.”
“50 years ago I auditioned for the Rocky Horror show at the 60-seat Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in London," added Quinn. "I asked my agent, 'What’s it about?' He replied, 'Something to do with a circus.' He wasn’t wrong. I’ve been in this circus ever since! ‘Cirque Du Rocky Horror’ I’m lucky! We’re all lucky!! Don’t dream it be it.”
Campbell added that “I never would have thought all these years later we’d be touring our little ole film. I’m so thrilled to get back on the road and to meet several generations of fans. Looking forward to a lot of fun just like it always was!”
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical cinema release in the world. Starring Tim Curry as the devious and fabulous Frank-N-Furter; Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as everybody's favorite nerdy couple, Brad and Janet; Meatloaf as ex-delivery boy Eddie who dates the groupie Columbia (played by Campbell); and Quinn as Magenta, servant to Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien); the film blends mid-century horror film aesthetics, sci-fi fantasy, and a hefty dose of taboo-shattering self-expression to create a wholly unique experience.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s International Tour is produced by Scott Stander and The Stander Group.
Tickets for the NYC engagement go on sale July 11 at 10 AM ET at Ticketmaster.com.
