Reviews are in for Jonathan Spector's Eureka Day starring Academy, Golden Globe, and Emmy winner Helen Hunt at London's The Old Vic. Katy Rudd (Camp Siegfried, The Ocean at the End of the Lane) directs the production, which began its run September 6 and will continue through October 31.
Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us) plays Carina, a recent addition to the board of directors at her son's new private school—where there's a mumps outbreak. Watson stars alongside Hunt (Our Town, As Good As It Gets, Mad About You) as Suzanne, Kirsten Foster (Life of Pi) as May, Mark McKinney (Superstore) as Don, Ben Schnetzer (Pride) as Eli, and Rachel Handshaw as Winter. As the parents end up in heated debate, and face a deluge of Facebook trolls, the play explores the struggle to find community consensus when no one can agree with the facts.

Handshaw also serves as an understudy alongside Alex Cartuson, Shin-Fei Chen, John Vernon, and Pippa Winslow.
Rudd (Camp Siegfried, The Ocean at the End of the Lane) helms the creative team which features composer Jherek Bischoff, set and costume designer Rob Howell, lighting designer Jon Clark, sound designer Donato Wharton, dialect coach Penny Dyer, Baylis assistant director Aaliyah McKay, costume supervisor Deborah Andrews, props supervisor Emma Dymott for Roc Props, and wig, hair, and make-up supervisors Campbell Young and Helen Keane for Campbell Young Associates. Greg Shimmin serves as stage manager, joined by deputy stage manager Alex Burke and assistant stage manager Louise Quartermain. Video is by Andrzej Goulding with voice by Charlie Hughes-D'Aeth. Casting is by Jim Carnahan.
The production is co-presented with Sonia Friedman Productions (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). Though the play may seem ripped from the headlines of 2022, it premiered at California's Aurora Theater in 2018 and played an Off-Broadway run at Colt Coeur in 2019.
Best known for her screen work, including As Good As It Gets and TV's Mad About You, Hunt is no stranger to the stage. She's appeared in Broadway productions of Our Town, Twelfth Night, and Life x 3; Our Town and The Taming of the Shrew Off-Broadway; and a U.S. tour of Love Letters, among others.
