To borrow a headline from one of the reviews, Theater Camp is "by theatre nerds, for theatre nerds." (Yes, please, thank you.)
Dear Evan Hansen stars (and fiancés) Ben Platt and Noah Galvin created the film along with Molly Gordon (Booksmart, The Bear) and Nick Lieberman, inspired by Galvin's 2020 short film of the same name. Theater Camp premiered at Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up for distribution by Searchlight Pictures. It releases theatrically July 14.
The mockumentary follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theatre camp in upstate New York as they come together with a less-than-theatrically-inclined member of the camp family to keep the program going following the sudden absence of the beloved founder.
