Broadway's Macbeth officially opened its limited engagement April 28 at the Longacre Theatre. Starring Daniel Craig in the title role and Ruth Negga as the relentless Lady Macbeth, Tony winner Sam Gold directs the production.
Previews for this production of the Scottish Play, which began March 29, were interrupted due to positive COVID cases within the company. Performances resumed April 12, and reviews were held until April 29 to give critics ample time.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
Conceived and directed by Stephen Sachs, the work follows an 18 year-old who turned in his father to the FBI via real-life public statements and court transcripts.
Transferring from an earlier run at Brooklyn Academy of Music, the production is one of two Arlekin productions playing the Off-Broadway company this fall.
