Winter may be beginning to wind down, but illness is still rolling through Broadway. Redwood, the new musical starring Idina Menzel, has announced that it has cancelled its February 1 matinee at 2 pm due to an illness in the cast. In a message posted to Instagram, the show encouraged ticket holders to contact their original point of purchase for refunds or exchanges.

The 8 pm show will be performed as scheduled. Redwood stars Idina Menzel, who co-conceived it with director, book writer, and co-lyricist Tina Landau. The show features music by Kate Diaz and lyrics by Diaz and Landau. In the new musical, Menzel plays a woman who, after a tragic event, drives cross-country and finds healing through the California redwoods.

The show had its world premiere in 2024 at La Jolla Playhouse in California.

The cast also features De'Adre Aziza as Mel, Michael Park as Finn, Zachary Noah Piser as Spencer, and Khaila Wilcoxon as Becca. Standbys Daniel Brackett, Bradley Dean, Veronica Otim, and Jessica Phillips round out the company. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Patrick Goodwin.

Kim, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Scott Zielinski, sound design by Jonathan Deans, vertical movement and choreography by Melecio Estrella of BANDALOOP, and orchestrations and arrangements by Diaz, all reprising their work from the La Jolla world premiere. New for the Broadway bow is music supervisor Tom Kitt and music director Julie McBride.

Redwood is produced on Broadway by Eva Price, Caroline Kaplan, and Loudmouth Media.
