Stage and screen stars Wayne Brady and Taye Diggs returned to Broadway July 22 in the Tony-winning Best Musical Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Brady and Diggs stepped into the roles of Harold Zidler and The Duke of Monroth, respectively. (Diggs is scheduled to perform through September 28, with Brady staying through November 9.)
The production also welcomed two other new leads July 22: Ashley Loren as Satine and Christian Douglas, in his Broadway debut, as Christian.

The four artists succeeded Solea Pfeiffer, Jordan Fisher, Austin Durant, and Andy Karl, who offered their final performances as, respectively, Satine, Christian, Harold Zidler, and The Duke of Monroth, July 20.
On Broadway five-time Emmy winner Brady has been seen in the title role of The Wiz, as Billy Flynn in Chicago, Lola in Kinky Boots, and in Freestyle Love Supreme. Other stage roles include Aaron Burr in the Chicago production of Hamilton, as well as Los Angeles stagings of Rent; Kiss Me, Kate; and Merrily We Roll Along. Brady currently hosts Let's Make a Deal and was previously seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Diggs originated the role of Benjamin Coffin III in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent and was also seen in Chicago, Wicked, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. His numerous screen credits include Private Practice, Murder in the First, All-American, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Wood, and The Best Man. He can also be seen in Terry McMillan Presents: Forever, currently airing on Lifetime's website.
Loren is a member of the original Broadway cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, having previously played the role of Satine. She’s also appeared in the Broadway revival of Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel at Lincoln Center, Sweet Charity, BAZ, and American Idiot. On film, she can be seen in Be the Light.
Douglas arrives on Broadway following a year-and-a-half run leading the Moulin Rouge! The Musical national tour. He previously appeared as Charlie Price in the Off-Broadway remount of Kinky Boots at Stage 42 and the national tour of Pretty Woman: The Musical.

Moulin Rouge!, based on the 2001 film, opened on Broadway in 2019 following a Boston tryout. The musical was subsequently nominated for 14 Tony Awards in 2020, winning 10, including Best Musical.
The production is directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan
(based on the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie of the same name) and
choreography by Sonya Tayeh. The score features covers of "Firework" by
Katy Perry, "Your Song" by Elton
John, and "Chandelier" by Sia, among many other modern pop songs. The
story takes place at Paris' famed Moulin Rouge and follows the tragic
love story between performer Satine and composer Christian.
The production's music team includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine, and music director Andrew Graham. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, with dance arrangements by Levine and Stine.
Also on the creative team are scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Justin Townsend, sound designer Peter Hylenski, hair designer David Brian Brown, and makeup designer Sarah Cimino, with creative services by Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.
