New Hampshirites who witness a woman descending from the sky holding an umbrella this winter, fear not. It's just the practically perfect nanny heading to The Music Hall for a limited engagement of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's hit musical Mary Poppins.
Presented by the Ogunquit Playhouse and The Music Hall, performances will play the latter December 2–20 in Portsmouth. Casting will be announced at a later time.
Shaun Kerrison will direct the limited engagement with additional creative team members to be revealed.
Based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the original Walt Disney film, the stage production was co-created by Mackintosh and has a book by Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. The score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman includes the film songs “Jolly Holiday,” “Step in Time,” “Feed the Birds,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” with new songs and additional music and lyrics by the Olivier Award-winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
The stage production of Mary Poppins originally opened in the West End in December 2004, running for over 1,250 performances. The production won two Olivier Awards and an Evening Standard Award and subsequently ran on Broadway for over six years.
Tickets are now on sale for Ogunquit Playhouse and Music Hall members and will go on sale to the general public April 8 at TheMusicHall.org.
