Bart Shatto, who was seen in the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, stars as Jean Valjean in the Surflight staging of the Tony Award-winning musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg. Performances began July 31, prior to an official opening Aug. 1, in Beach Haven, NJ. The show has extended to Aug. 31.
Directed by Norb Joerder, the production also features Todd Alan Johnson as Javert. The cast also includes Kelly McCormick (Fantine), Ali Gleason (Eponine), Nicholas Cox (Marius), Jillian Gottlieb (Cosette), Jamiesson O'Brien (Young Cosette), Nadia Jewel (Young Cosette), Maddox Elliot Skigen (Gavroche), Vincent Crocilla (Gavroche), Gabriella Marinich (Young Eponine), Kelly Briggs (Thernadier), Yvonne Strumecki (Madame Thernadier), Scott Sowinski (Enjolras), Sarah Beling, Mark Blowers, Rory Connolly, Tom DeMichele, Amanda Fannon, Matthew Greenberg, Tommy Joscelyn, T.J. Larke, Amelia Millar, Elizabeth Miller, Peter Kane, Ryan P.J. Mulholland, Sarah Joy Kane and Jeff Sullivan.
Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, Les Misérables, according to Surflight, "is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit." The score includes "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and "Master Of The House," among others.
Other members of the creative team include Henco Espag (musical director), Stephen Cowles (sets), Anna Hillbery (costumes), Benjamin Weill (lighting), A&L Sound Partners (sound) and Michael J. Iannelli (production stage manager).
Les Miz has been seen by nearly 65 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 22 languages. A Broadway revival at the Imperial Theatre is scheduled for March 2014.
