This October, Playbill celebrates our 140th anniversary. Over the past century, Playbill has been woven into the theatregoing experience for those who love Broadway. Playbills get pressed into albums, read at intermissions, framed like posters, and collected by show attendees. Many of the cover designs have become an important part of Broadway history, remembered long after the show has closed.
This month, every show on Broadway (and Little Shop of Horrors) celebrated Playbill's 140th anniversary by creating special covers inspired by vintage Playbills. They're the latest in a long line of iconic Playbill covers. In honor of that history, below, see the 100 most memorable Playbill covers from the past 140 years. And be sure to let us know what are your personal favorites.
