This year's winners will be celebrated at an October 21 ceremony.

The 2024 Henry Hewes Design Award winners were revealed September 11, with this year's honorees to be recognized at the group's 60th annual ceremony October 21 in New York.

The honors recognize the best in New York theatrical design, with categories covering scenic, costume, lighting, sound, and media work, along with notable effects.

Design collective dots took the Scenic Design category for Broadway's Appropriate, while Oana Botez won the Costume category for Signature Theatre Company's OrlandoBuena Vista Social Club sound designer Jonathan Deans took the Sound category, with David Bengali's work recognized for the Media Design of Here There Are Blueberries. Hair and wig designer Nikiya Mathis won the Notable Effects category for her already Tony-winning work on Broadway's Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.

Broadway's Stereophonic also received a Special Citation for Excellence in Design, honoring the work of scenic designer David Zinn, costume designer Enver Chakartash, lighting designer Jiyoun Chang, sound designer Ryan Rumery, and hair and wig designers Robert Pickens and Katie Gell.

“The 2023-24 theatre season was a memorable one for its breadth and creativity,” says committee chairman Jeffrey Eric Jenkins in a statement. “We continue to recognize the outstanding contribution that designers make to the creative process in all theatre productions, and we congratulate the 2024 Honorees for their excellent work.”

This year's winners were chosen from more than 130 nominees across 79 productions, an all-time high for the honors. Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway productions are all eligible for the awards.
