Education News National Theater Institute to Sponsor Educational Theatre Association's Next Generation Works Program The suite of programs promotes original theatre writing by high school students.

The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA)'s Next Generation Works program is now being sponsored by the National Theater Institute, the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's undergraduate training arm.

The program is designed to promote and support original writing by EdTA's International Thespian Society, an honor society for high school drama students. Within the Next Generation Works umbrella are Thespian Playworks for student playwrights, Thespian Musicalworks for student musical writers, Thespian Filmworks for student screenwriters, and Thespian Criticworks for student arts journalists—all of which take submissions for developmental workshops at the annual International Thespian Festival.

"Empowering students to work with theatre professionals in creating, presenting, and responding to new works embodies EdTA’s mission of honoring student achievement and enriching their educational experience," says Next Generation Works Program Director Gregory Bossler. "We are grateful to our sponsors, including the National Theater Institute, whose generous support provides this unique opportunity for students to develop writing skills and get individualized mentoring from professionals.”
