Penguin Rep Theatre, in association with Lisa Joyner and Jon Cryer, will present a 29-hour, invitation-only reading of the musical sequel Still Getting My Act Together November 7 at Pearl Studios in Manhattan.
With a book and lyrics by Gretchen Cryer and music by Nancy Ford—who previously collaborated on I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road—the reading will feature the talents of Marilu Henner (Taxi, Chicago) as Heather Jones, Peter Gallagher (Left on Tenth, The O.C.) as Joe Epstein, Issy Van Randwyck (Fascinating Aida) as Cheryl, Jennifer Leigh Warren (Little Shop of Horrors, Big River) as Alice, David Ippolito as Jake, and Audie Award winner Piper Goodeve as Bonnie.
Musical director Jody Shelton will be featured on the keyboard with Colin Jeffress on the bass. Michael Palmer is stage manager, and Isaac Goldbaum is assistant stage manager.
Cryer, who is a playwright, lyricist, director, and actress, also collaborated with Ford on the musicals Shelter and The Last Sweet Days of Isaac. The sequel to I'm Getting My Act Together has been in the works for several years.
