Singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson says that Broadway is "one of the major reasons" she moved to New York City from Los Angeles. The titular host of The Kelly Clarkson Show shared in an interview with The Today Show's Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that she is currently writing a musical, though she plans to take her time working on it.
"I've been writing a show...I've been doing that for about a year and a half now," she revealed. She expressed that she wants to fully settle in to her life in New York City before she takes it anywhere, however. "I would like my kids to get established here, for me to get established here, but I love Broadway...I do want to do something," said Clarkson.
Clarkson's love of Broadway is certainly well established, from bringing on & Juliet star Lorna Courtney to perform Clarkson's hit "Since U Been Gone" on The Kelly Clarkson Show, which is featured in the pop jukebox musical, to Clarkson performing "It's Quiet Uptown" from Hamilton on The Today Show years ago. And Broadway certainly loves her right back—just a few weeks ago, 54 Below put on 54 Sings Kelly Clarkson. It's only a matter of time until Clarkson's music is performed on a Broadway stage...outside of Courtney belting out "Since U Been Gone" every night at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, of course!
