The 2025 Emmy Award nominations are out, and though the awards recognize television programming, the list did contain a number of names that theatre fans will recognize (including a nod to the 77th Tony Awards). Below are the theatre-adjacent Emmy nominees.

Among the actors, Martin Short was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Only Murders in the the Building. In Best Actress in a Comedy Series, Jean Smart was nominated for Hacks, and Uzo Aduba for The Residence. Sterling K. Brown was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series for Paradise.

In the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Sam Rockwell was nominated for The White Lotus, and John Turturro was nominated for Severance. In Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Michael Urie was nominated for Shrinking and Ebon Moss-Bachrach was nominated for The Bear. In Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Liza Colón-Zayas was nominated for The Bear, and Sheryl Lee Ralph was nominated for Abbott Elementary.

In Best Actor in a Limited Series, Jake Gyllenhaal was nominated for Presumed Innocent, and Brian Tyree Henry was nominated for Dope Thief. In Best Actress in a Limited Series, Cate Blanchett was nominated for Disclaimer, Cristin Milioti was nominated for The Penguin, and Michelle Williams was nominated for her work in Dying for Sex.

In Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Deirdre O’Connell was nominated for The Penguin, and Ruth Negga was nominated for Presumed Innocent. 

In Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, Jon Bernthal was nominated for The Bear, and Bryan Cranston was nominated for The Studio. In Guest Actress in a Drama Series, Cherry Jones was nominated for The Handmaid's Tale. In Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, recent Tony Awards host Cynthia Erivo was nominated for Poker Face. 

In Outstanding Host for a Realty Competition Program, Alan Cumming was nominated for The Traitors.

In the creative categories, Glenn Weiss was nominated for Outstanding Director for a Variety Special for his work on the 77th Annual Tony Awards. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez were nominated for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for their work on Agatha All Along. Jack Thorn and Stephen Graham were nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series for Adolescence. Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen, and Bridget Everett were nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Somebody Somewhere. 

The 77th Emmy Awards ceremony will take place September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast on CBS, with a live stream on Paramount+.
