Tony Award winner Alan Cumming was honored January 8 in Los Angeles with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing his work on the screen and on the stage. Friends Brian Cox and Monica Lewinsky were also in attendance to present Cumming with the honor.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome actor Alan Cumming to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer. “As we step into the new year, we’re thrilled to honor the incomparable Alan Cumming with a Walk of Fame star. Alan’s remarkable range, fearless artistry, and dedication to his craft have captivated audiences around the world. His star shines as brightly as his spirit, and we’re proud to celebrate his contributions to entertainment here in Hollywood."

On Cumming's star, the Walk of Fame's 2,832nd star, are two theatre mask icons. In his acceptance speech, Cumming reflected on the importance of the stage in his career, saying: "The citation for this award is theatre performance and live performance, and I feel like that’s really appropriate. Because if I’m going to be literally and figuratively a part of Hollywood, I feel it’s really appropriate that theatre is at the center of my star ... Theatre made me, especially Scottish theatre, made me. And I have returned to theatre over the years … I am so happy that theatre is a part of this incredible Hollywood honor and a little piece of Scotland will be at the center of, right opposite"—and here the five-time Emmy winner gestured to the strip club across the street—"Showgirls forever."

He then added, to chuckles from the crowd: "I would also like to mention and thank my acting teacher at drama school who told me, when I was 19 years old, that I would never make it as a professional actor. And I would like to say: ‘Who is on top and who is on bottom now biatch?”

Cumming is currently the host of the reality show Traitors, for which he's won four Emmy Awards. He also won a Tony in 1998 for playing the Emcee in Cabaret. He is currently the artistic director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre in his native Scotland. His Broadway credits include a one-man Macbeth and Threepenny Opera. His screen credits include Schmigadoon!X2: X Men United, and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
