The 2022 International Thespian Festival has announced the first slate of high school productions invited to perform on the festival’s main stage, among the highest honors possible for school theatre programs that participate in the International Thespian Society. Scheduled to be held in-person on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, June 20-24, the event will be the first in-person International Thespian Society since 2019.
The seven productions playing ITF’s main stage are Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin’s Groundhog Day: The Musical; Jemicy School in Owings Mills, Maryland’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time; Lincoln Southwest High School in Lincoln, Nebraska’s Kinky Boots; New Albany High School in New Albany, Indiana’s Disney’s Beauty and the Beast; North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek, Florida’s Catch Me If You Can; Paola High School in Paola, Kansas’ Bus Stop; and Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas’ The Book of Will. One additional production will join the roster later this year.
The opportunity is a major achievement for schools that participate in the festival, with only a select few being invited to perform on the ITF main stage following a nationwide screening and adjudication process.
The International Thespian Festival, produced by the Educational Theatre Association, brings more than 4,000 high school drama students and their teachers together for a week of workshops, networking opportunities, and inspiration. ITF attendees have the chance to interact with colleges, Broadway professionals, and industry leaders as they work towards honing their craft. The 2020 and 2021 festivals were presented virtually due to the pandemic.
Registration for the festival is now open at ITF.SchoolTheatre.org.
