Today's performance of Hamilton will be one for the ages.

The Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical is being filmed live June 28 with nearly its entire original cast intact, including Jonathan Groff, who returns to the role of King George III, which he originated on Broadway. It may be the last time all the original leads perform the show together on Broadway.

The show was also filmed live June 26. The best of the two recordings presumably will be edited together into a single entity.

Precisely where and when and how the resulting film will be shown has not been announced, but producers wanted to capture the original cast before they disperse to new projects. Original leads Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Phillipa Soo are scheduled to play their final performances in the show July 9.

Groff discussed his return to Hamilton on NBC's Today show June 28:

In related news, PBS has announced that it will air the documentary Hamilton's America October 21. RadicalMedia has been filming the progress of the show since it premiered Off-Broadway in January 2015.
