London's Playground Theatre has announced the complete cast and creative team for Grenfell System Failure: Scenes From The Inquiry, a follow-up production to 2021's Grenfell: Value Engineering. Whereas Value Engineering explored the events of the Grenfell tragedy, The Inquiry interrogates the inquiry that was conducted following the tragedy.
The work will be led by Olivier-nominee Ron Cook, returning to his role as Lead Counsel to the Inquiry, Richard Millet QC. Also returning from the original production are Derek Elroy as Leslie Thomas QC, Sally Giles as Kate Grange QC, David Michaels as Andy Roe/Nick Hurd, and Thomas Wheatley as Sir Martin Moore-Bick.
They will be joined by Nicholas Chambers as Adrian Pargeter, Sophie Duval as Sarah Colwell, Tanveer Ghani as Imran Khan, Shahzad Ali as Hisam Chouchair, Madeleine Bowyer as Deborah French, and Howard Crossley as Eric Pickles. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Grenfell System Failure: Scenes From The Inquiry is based entirely on the transcribed text of the final phase of the Grenfell Inquiry, which ended in November 2022. Issues regarding the failure of testing protocols, the oversight of manufacturers, and more are called into question as politicians and government regulations are put under the microscope.
The play be staged by three West London venues throughout 2023; the Playground Theatre (February 18 – February 25), the Tabernacle (February 27 – March 12) and the Marylebone Theatre (March 14 – March 26).
The production will have set design by Miki Jablkowska and Matt Eagland, lighting design by Matt Eagland, sound and video design by Andy Graham, costume design by Carly Brownbridge, casting by Amy Ball with community liaison from Suresh Grover, and production photography by Beresford Hodge.
