Newly released production shots are giving us a first look at James Graham's Punch, which opened its American premiere on Broadway via Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre September 29 after beginning previews September 9. See what critics had to say here.
The work, which arrives stateside after a world premiere run at the U.K.'s Nottingham Playhouse, is also directed by Penford. It is adapted from Jacob Dunne's book Right From Wrong, centered on Dunne's real-life story of a tragic mistake that turned fatal. The play follows Jacob as he contends with the consequences of his actions, finding an unusual source of hope in the parents of the boy he killed. The play is making a simultaneous transfer to London's West End, playing the Apollo Theatre through November 29.
The Broadway cast features Camila Canó-Flaviá (Network, Patriots) as Clare and Nicola; Will Harrison (A Complete Unknown) as Jacob; Sam Robards (American Beauty, The 39 Steps) as David and Raf’s Dad; Lucy Taylor (Betrayal) as Mum and Wendy; two-time Tony winner Victoria Clark (Kimberly Akimbo, The Light in the Piazza) as the victim’s mother, Joan and Nan; Cody Kostro (Six Degrees of Separation) as Raf and Sam; and Piter Marek (Cyrano de Bergerac) as Tony, Derek, and DS Villers. The ensemble includes Kim Fischer, Jacob Orr, and Amber Reauchean Williams, with understudies Judith Lightfoot Clarke and Ben Livingston rounding out the company.
The production features scenic and costume design by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Robbie Butler, original music and sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite, movement direction by Leanne Pinder, dialect coaching by Ben Furey and Charlotte Fleck, and casting by Caparelliotis Casting and Kelly Gillespie. Richard A. Hodge is the production stage manager.
