Audible Theater will give a world premiere to The Disappear, a new work being written and directed by BAFTA Award nominee Erica Schmidt. Performances will begin January 8, 2026 ahead of a January 15 opening night at the company's Off-Broadway Minetta Lane Theatre. The limited engagement will continue through February 15, with the title slated to be recorded for audio release as an Audible Original in the months ahead.
The work tracks a power couple whose seemingly perfect life goes completely off script, getting their friends, affairs, and daughter mixed up in the process. Casting—by Caparelliotis Casting's David Caparelliotis and Joe Gery—is to be announced. The Disappear is the second world premiere Audible has produced with Schmidt, following their 2023 production of her play Lucy.
"Audible's inventive approach to theatrte and audio has allowed me to explore new possibilities for my work," says Schmidt in a statement. "I'm honored to return and collaborate with this dynamic team to present a play that explores relationships and how we pursue creativity."
The production will feature set design by Brett J. Banakis, costume design by Jennifer Moeller and Miriam Kelleher, lighting design by Cha See, and sound design by Palmer Hefferan. Merrick A. B. Williams will serve as production stage manager with Mary Kate Baughman as assistant stage manager. Beacon Theatrical Services is providing theatrical supervision and ShowTown Theatricals is general managing.
