Ogunquit Playhouse will present a reading of the new musical To Sir With Love. Inspired by E.R. Braithwaite's autobiographical novel of the same name—which was also previously adapted into a 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier—the work is adapted for the stage by Kris Lythgoe and features music & lyrics by John Farrar and Kara DioGuardi. Sheldon Epps will direct the reading, held in New York November 13.

Braithwaite—a teacher, Cambridge-educated engineer, and former RAF fighter pilot—explores through his autobiographical work the ways he battled social prejudices throughout his life. The novel also addresses how he engaged his students, not as troublesome youths but as emerging adults who must soon navigate a world where they'll stand or fall on their own merits.

The cast of the musical will include Courtney Balan, Griffin Binnicker, Jeffrey Cornelius, J. Anthony Crane, Samantha Gorjanc, Jim Hogan, Liz Pearce, Kenneth Robinson, Kate Rockwell, Matt Stocke, Elliott Styles, Elizabeth Teeter, Rixey Terry, Eden Witvoet, and Riley Thad Young.

The staged reading will feature music direction by Kenny Seymour and casting by Rachel HoffmanThe Telsey Office. To Sir With Love is produced in association with Lythgoe Family Productions.
