Concord Theatricals' Broadway Licensing Global and the Educational Theatre Foundation have revealed the five schools named String grantees. Each will receive free performance rights and materials to produce the newly expanded version of Adam Gwon and Sarah Hammond's String in the 2025-2026 school year. Applicants were selected based on their enthusiasm for staging a lesser-known work and directorial vision.

The chosen schools are Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas; Hedgesville High School in Hedgesville, West Virginia; Northeast High School in St. Petersburg, Florida; Strafford High School in Strafford, Missouri; and Ysleta High School in El Paso, Texas.

The work—which features a book by Hammond and songs by Gwon (All The World's a Stage)—centers on the mythological characters of the Fates, who produce, measure, and cut the strings of life for every human. The musical had a world premiere at Seattle's Village Theatre in 2018, and won both the Richard Rodgers and Frederick Loewe Awards. The original production was designed for an acting company of 10. This new version allows for more flexible and drastically expanded casting, with school productions in mind.

“We are delighted to partner with the team at Broadway Licensing Global to bring this wonderful and lesser-known title to schools across the country," says Educational Theatre Foundation President Dr. Jennifer Katona in a statement. "In a moment when the arts are facing budgeting shortfalls, this kind of support from our partners is transformative for theatre educators and their students."
