The Weinstein Company will produce the film adaptation of Nicola Kraus and Emma McLaughlin's popular 2002 satiric novel. Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini co-direct their screenplay. Murphy will appear in the film opposite fellow stage veteran Laura Linney (The Crucible, Sight Unseen) with Scarlett Johansson, Paul Giamatti. Chris Evans and Alicia Keys. The story follows a working class woman named Nan (Johansson) from New Jersey who takes a position as a nanny for a wealthy family in Manhattan.
Dany Wolf ("Last Days") executive produces the film — which begins filming in New York this month — with producer Richard Gladstein
Murphy was last seen on Broadway in the revival of Wonderful Town. She has earned Tony Awards for her turns in Passion and the revival of The King and I. Her other Broadway credits include They're Playing Our Song, The Human Comedy and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Murphy's screen credits include "Spider-Man 2," "Center Stage," "Star Trek: Insurrection" and the forthcoming "World Trade Center."
