Deathless, a new indie-rock musical by Zack Zadek, has been acquired by Music Theatre International for licensing. The title is currently restricted for new productions, but those interested in producing the work can sign up for further updates at MTIShows.com.
The musical follows the Serling family on an annual road trip to Niagara Falls as they grieve their matriarch, while also contemplating whether or not to take a groundbreaking new medication that promises immortality. The work premiered at Goodspeed Musicals in 2017 and has also been developed at Theatreworks Silicon Valley and Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival. Warner Music released a studio album of the score November 7.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the MTI catalogue," says Zadek in a statement. "Deathless is a show about the parts of the human condition that unite us all, so nothing could be more thrilling than performers from all different walks of life bringing their take on the Serling family. I look forward to seeing where licensed productions take the road trip next.”
“Deathless is a show about connection—between generations, between storytellers, between audiences. Coinciding with the release of the studio recording, this is an exciting next step in the show’s journey that will allow even more artists to bring those connections to life on stage," adds MTI President and CEO Drew Cohen.
Zadek will celebrate the release of the Deathless album with a concert at Joe's Pub November 13. He'll be joined by Kevin Atwater, Sara Kays, Nicolette Robinson, Kathryn Gallagher, Jordan Fisher, Morgan Dudley, Jane Bruce, and Yazmin DeJesus, to sing songs from Deathless and other upcoming musicals. Tickets are at PublicTheater.org.
