Video Can You Unravel My Life in the Theatre's Web of Connections?

Playbill's Margaret Hall breaks down the many connections between the 26 stars of the hit video series.

Well folks, it's Christmas Eve, and we here at Playbill have a special gift for the theatre history nerd in your life.

Since relaunching in 2023, Playbill has highlighted 26 spectacular stage stars as a part of the My Life in the Theatre video series. Now, as we look forward to 2026, the Playbill editorial team gave me what they thought was a challenge: connecting each and every star as quickly as possible, to form a web of connections.

As the producer and theatre historian behind the series, it is my job to carefully plot out each season, covering as much historical ground as possible while also highlighting the current theatre season in New York. With two seasons of television length episodes available for free on Playbill.com and our Youtube channel, we have immortalized countless stories from lives lived on and off the stage, and many of those lives have intersected in one way or another.

Armed with some push pins, red string, and an empty office, I jumped in front of the camera to showcase some of my favorite connections between all 26 stars, as we prepare to bring you our starriest season yet in 2026.

Check out the video below, and see if you can beat my time: 2 minutes 47 seconds!

The My Life in the Theatre series is a video series dedicated to honoring Broadway legends with a walk down memory lane. Each month’s star receives their Playbill Memory Binder, which is filled with a selection of Playbills from their various Broadway, Off-Broadway, and touring credits, allowing them to reminisce and share some of backstage stories behind their most memorable moments.

Previous stars include Nathan Lane, Emilio Sosa, Jeanine Tesori, Tovah Feldshuh, Casey Nicholaw, Chip Zien, Priscilla Lopez, Irene Gandy, Bebe Neuwirth, David Rockwell, Jayne Houdyshell, Paula Vogel, Kenny Leon, Donna McKechnie, David Henry Hwang, Jack O'Brien, Christian Borle, Peter Gallagher, Bill Berloni, George C. Wolfe, David Hyde Pierce, Jonathan Groff, Audra McDonald, Victoria Clark, Stephen Schwartz, and Brian D'Arcy James. You can view every person's episode by clicking their name in the list above. A full firmament of stars will be revealed for the 2026 season in the new year.

The My Life in the Theatre series is directed and edited by Ethan Treiman, with research, development, and production by Margaret Hall. Audio engineering is by Sean Davis, with photography by Vi Dang. Playbill Memory Binders are provided by the Playbill Store, with their interior contents designed by Dean Greer.
