Off-Broadway News Brendan Fraser and Brian J. Smith Will Star in Samuel D. Hunter's Grangeville Off-Broadway

Jack Serio will direct the Signature Theatre world premiere from The Whale playwright.

Brendan Fraser, who won a 2023 Academy Award for his performance in the film adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter's The Whale, will co-star in Signature Theatre's world premiere of Hunter's Grangeville next year.

Directed by Jack Serio, the production will play the Manhattan venue February 4–March 16, 2025.

Joining Fraser (Gods and Monsters, The Mummy, Elling, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) in the two-hander will be Brian J. Smith (The Matrix Resurrections, Sense8, The Glass Menagerie, The Columnist).

Grangeville, which takes its title from the Idaho town of the same name, follows two half-brothers who tentatively reconnect over the care of their ailing mother. Fraser plays the older Jerry, who still lives in Grangeville, while Smith plays Arnold, an artist now living in Rotterdam, drawn back into his past.

In his new play Hunter, press notes state, "explores the fallibility of memory, the stories we tell to make sense of our suffering, and the complexity of forgiveness."

The upcoming production will also have scenic design by dots, costume design by Ricky Reynoso, lighting design by Stacey DeRosier, sound design by Chris Darbassie, and dramaturgy by John Baker. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting's David Caparelliotis, Joe Gery, and Elena Sgouros.
