Film & TV News Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll Tapped for The Sopranos Prequel The two stage alums will appear in the movie, set during the '60s riots in Newark.

Two more stars—both with theatre ties—have been added to the ensemble cast of The Many Saints of Newark, David Chase’s movie prequel to the TV series The Sopranos. Variety reports that Tony nominee Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll will join previously announced cast members Alessandro Nivola (Broadway's The Elephant Man), Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga.

The news comes shortly after it was announced that both had joined upcoming projects from Netflix. Magnussen will appear opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Collette, and Daveed Diggs in Velvet Buzzsaw, a thriller set in the art world; he can also be seen in Disney's upcoming live-actiong Aladdin. Stoll is part of the ensemble cast of Ryan Murphy's upcoming One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest -inspired series.

Nivola will play Dickie Moltisanti, father to Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli on The Sopranos), but the rest of the actors’ roles are unknown. The movie is set in 1967 Newark, New Jersey, against the backdrop of race riots incited by instances of police brutality against African-Americans. Adam Taylor, who has worked on The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, will direct.
