London News Back to the Future Musical Will Close in the West End Next Year

The hit musical, based on the film of the same name, plays London's Adelphi.

The hit London production of Back to the Future The Musical, which opened in August 2021, will play its final performance at the Adelphi Theatre April 12, 2026, before launching its U.K. national tour in October at the Bristol Hippodrome.

As of closing, the West End musical will have played 1,913 performances.

Producer Colin Ingram said in a statement, “Great Scott! Back to the Future The Musical continues to be a huge success throughout the world with over 4.5 million people now having visited Hill Valley. The show finishes in the West End after a fantastic five years and having been seen by over two million people. We’re now excited for the next phase of Back to the Future The Musical as it heads out on tour for audiences to enjoy all across the U.K.”

Olly Dobson, Ben Joyce, Caden Brauch Will All Be Marty McFly in London's Back to the Future Musical for 1 Night Only

The acclaimed London production won the Olivier for Best New Musical, has taken in over £120 million in ticket sales, and is the second longest-running show ever at the Adelphi. The musical also played an 18-month engagement at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre before embarking on a tour of North American that is now in its second year. 

The London production currently stars Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Corey English as Doctor Emmett Brown, Maddie Grace Jepson as Lorraine Baines, Orlando Gibbs as George McFly, C.J. Borger as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Alex Runicles as Biff Tannen, Talia Palamathanan as Jennifer Parker, Lee Ormsby as Alternate Doctor Emmett Brown and Strickland, Gracie Caine as Linda McFly, and Liam McHugh as Dave McFly with Ryan Appiah-Sarpong, Jed Berry, Billie Bowman, Jabari Braham, Charlotte Coggin, Sia Dauda, Lauren Dawes, Alexander Day, Talia Duff, Helen Gulston, Oliver Halford, Thomas Inge, Stephen Lewis-Johnston, Adam Margilewski, Amy Barker, Anna Murray, Samuel Nicholas, Brian Ó’Muirí, Phoebe Roberts, Issie Wilman, and Alexandra Wright.

At select performances, Oliver Halford plays the role of Marty McFly.

Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, the musical, which opened in London September 13, 2021, has a book by Bob Gale and new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film, including "The Power of Love" and "Johnny B. Goode."

The production is directed by Tony winner John Rando with set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, lighting consulting by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Gareth Owen, video design by Finn Ross, choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow, illusions by Chris Fisher, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, and dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod Associates.

The Broadway production of Back to the Future ended its run at the Winter Garden January 5, 2025.
