Nederlander Organization Executive Vice President Nick Scandalios received a Sardi's portrait November 21, in celebration of his 30-plus years helping run one of the main theatrical organizations on Broadway. The Nederlanders are one of the largest owners of theatres in the world, running nine Broadway houses. Scandalio's portrait will now be displayed on the Sardi's restaurant wall, alongside over 1,200 portraits of his fellow Broadway luminaries.

In a celebration and unveiling at the Broadway eatery, surrounded by industry friends as well as seven members of his family, Scandalios was visibly moved, saying: "I'm very mindful today of the 14 year old boy in 1979 who heard the original Broadway cast of Evita for the first time, and how that moment changed this 14 year old boy's life in ways I didn't actually ever contemplate at the time." Scandalios then paused, choking up, before adding, "I had two amazing parents who didn't know how to support me, but did. I had the blessing of walking into Jimmy Nederlander Senior's life and him changing my life forever. There would be no day like today without Jimmy Senior, and I think about him every day."

James M. Nederlander, or Jimmy to his friends, was the founder of the Nederlander organization, and ran it from 1922 to 2016. His son, James L. Nederlander, now runs the group as President and CEO.

At the event, Scandalios marveled at that family business, saying he's also felt welcomed into the fold: "Working for a family business—and as many of you know, my family has had ups and downs—but the support that they have given me through my entire life (let alone the last decade) has been profound. It leads to me to think about the journey of family, and it leads me thinking about my two beautiful children who just turned 18 years old, and that we get to live in a space all together. And it really is true, there are not other industries that get to live in a space all together all the time, where we move as a family, and our family lives come in and out of our existence and are completely blended with my work life. And so with that, I think I'm going to shut my mouth and be totally grateful."

To show just what an important member of the family Scandalios is, his portrait will be hung at Sardi's between James M. Nederlander and James L. Nederlander. According to James L. Nederlander, the portrait is "an honor, well deserved, and long overdue."

Scandalios is also chairman of the Broadway League and on the Board of Trustees for Broadway Cares, and serves as vice chairman of Family Equality Council. He's also the winner of the 2018 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award, which honors a theatre professional's philanthrophic efforts.

With theatres all over the world, the Nederlander Organization is currently hosting the productions of HamiltonWickedThe Lion King, SIX: The MusicalDeath Becomes HerMJ the Musical, and Beetlejuice on Broadway. In the West End, The Devil Wears Prada and Back to the Future are playing at Nederlander-owned theatres.
