Back to the Future Musical Ends West End Run April 12

The hit musical, based on the film of the same name, opened at London's Adelphi in 2021.

The hit London production of Back to the Future The Musical, which opened in August 2021, plays its final performance at the Adelphi Theatre April 12 before launching its U.K. national tour in October at the Bristol Hippodrome. As of closing, the West End musical will have played 1,913 performances.

Producer Colin Ingram said in an earlier statement, “Great Scott! Back to the Future The Musical continues to be a huge success throughout the world with over 4.5 million people now having visited Hill Valley. The show finishes in the West End after a fantastic five years and having been seen by over two million people. We’re now excited for the next phase of Back to the Future The Musical as it heads out on tour for audiences to enjoy all across the U.K.”

Back to the Future: The Musical made its world premiere at the Manchester Opera House in March 2020. The West End production opened in London September 13, 2021, at the Adelphi Theatre and subsequently won the Best New Musical Olivier Award. It is the second longest-running show in the history of the Adelphi. The Broadway production, which opened in August 2023, played its final performance at the Winter Garden Theatre January 5, 2024, before embarking on a tour of North American that continues.

The London production is currently led by Caden Brauch as Marty McFly, Cory English as Doctor Emmett Brown, Maddie Grace Jepson as Lorraine Baines, Orlando Gibbs as George McFly, C.J. Borger as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Alex Runicles as Biff Tannen, Talia Palamathanan as Jennifer Parker, Lee Ormsby as Alternate Doctor Emmett Brown and Strickland, Gracie Caine as Linda McFly, and Liam McHugh as Dave McFly.

Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, the musical has a book by Bob Gale and new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film, including "The Power of Love" and "Johnny B. Goode."

The production is directed by Tony winner John Rando with set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, lighting consulting by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Gareth Owen, video design by Finn Ross, choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow, illusions by Chris Fisher, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, and dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod Associates.
