The Tony-nominated show is set to make its Australian premiere at Adelaide's Festival Theatre Jan. 8, 2016, before touring the country. It will play Melbourne in February and Sydney in March. Ghost follows the supernatural love story between a couple; when Sam is unexpectedly killed, the help of a psychic allows him to protect Molly from further danger.

Ghost The Musical, adapted from the movie of the same name with Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, played the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway in 2012. The show features a book by Bruce Joel Rubin (the film's screenwriter), lyrics by Rubin, Dave Stewart (from the Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard and music by Stewart and Ballard. The Broadway production starred Richard Fleeshman, Caissie Levy and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who was Tony-nominated for her performance as the psychic.

The musical premiered in Manchester in the U.K. before transferring to the West End and, later, the Great White Way. It received acclaim for its use of special effects in depicting the supernatural, such as making Sam appear like he was walking through doors and flying objects.

"Friends who have seen it say there are incredible effects," Mills told Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

"What drew me to [Ghost] is that the songs are great. It’s a rock-pop musical and that’s my bag. I love that stuff," Mills continued. He is currently featured in the Australian TV mini-series "Peter Allen: The Boy Next Door." Ghost is the latest in a string of big musicals that have been announced in Australia, including Matilda, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady and Kinky Boots.
