The Drama League has announced a host of Broadway stars set to perform and appear at Embrace the Season, its 2023 gala celebration. The gala is set for November 13 at 6:00 PM at New York's Edison Ballroom.
Performers and appearances will include Annaleigh Ashford, Lindsay Mendez, Andrew Durand, and Betsy Aidem, along with sneak peeks of the upcoming Broadway musicals How to Dance in Ohio and Water for Elephants. More featured artists will be announced in November.
Embrace the Season is directed by Sheryl Kaller and Ben Villegas Randle, with musical direction by David Evans. The event is chaired by Mary Jain, and the creative team also includes line producer Mary Martha Ford, stage manager Karen Schleifer, event director Karen Rosenberg, artistic associate Andrew Coopman, and production assistant Michelle Chan.
The evening is designed to uplift the New York theatrical community, and this year, it will honor Broadway producer Jeffrey Richards. Richards is celebrating five decades as a producer and publicist, and is currently represented on Broadway with the revival of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch. Embrace the Season will feature a series of tributes to Richards from Diane Paulus, Danny Burstein, Norm Lewis, and Jessica Hecht, among others.
The event is produced by Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, with underwriting from Bob Boyett/RB Theatricals, Broadway HD, and Susan Edelstein Productions, and additional support from 101 Productions, Caiola Productions, the John Gore Organization, and The Nederlander Organization.
“It is my pleasure to share how proud we are to provide essential, critical support to the American Theater," says Bonnie Comley, President of the Drama League Board of Directors. "This Gala will celebrate our community by honoring the thrilling season ahead for Broadway and Off-Broadway theater and provide awareness and funds to support the artists in our Directors Project. We hope you will join us!"
