Ali, meet Alicia! 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys will take the stage at Broadway's Shubert Theatre after two upcoming performances of her jukebox musical Hell's Kitchen for a special live concert, Keys' first-ever performances on a Broadway stage. Planned for after evening performances September 26 and 27, the concerts will see Keys joined by members of the musical's cast.
“After the show, we’re doing something really special—me and my keys will be there and I can’t wait to share this intimate moment with the beautiful Hell’s Kitchen community," says Keys in a statement.
The musical currently stars Amanda Reid as Ali, Jessica Vosk (Wicked) as Jersey, Christopher Jackson (Hamilton) as Davis, Phillip Johnson Richardson (The Wiz) as Knuck, and Tony winner Kecia Lewis (Ain't Misbehavin') as Miss Liza Jane.
Hell's Kitchen features music and lyrics by Keys and a book by Kristoffer Diaz. Inspired by the recording artist's life, the story centers on 17-year-old Ali and her mother, sharing a cramped apartment near Times Square. Ali wants to live out her NYC dream, but Jersey is scared her daughter will repeat her own mistakes. Ali is further confused when her estranged father—Davis, who is a musician—comes back into her life.
The show opened at the Shubert Theatre April 20, 2024, after beginning previews March 28—read the reviews here. Michael Greif directs the work, which features choreography by Camille A. Brown.
