Max Chernin will star in Goodspeed Musicals’ premiere of Passing Through, the new musical by Brett Ryback and Eric Ulloa, that will run July 26–August 18 at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Connecticut.
Passing Through has music and lyrics by Ryback (The Tavern Keeper’s Daughter) and a book by Ulloa (26 Pebbles). The writers are also known for their respective performances onstage in Murder for Two and On Your Feet!.
The new musical is based on the podcast Walking to Listen, a 4,000 Mile Odyssey, which documented Andrew Forsthoeffel’s year-long, cross-country walk from Pennsylvania to California.
Chernin (Bright Star, Sunday in the Park With George), who was part of a developmental lab of Passing Through earlier this year, will play Andrew in a cast that will also feature Jim Stanek (Fun Home) as Andrew’s Dad, Garrett Long (Dear Evan Hansen) as Andrew’s Mom, Celeste Rose (We Are the Tigers) as Karie, and Jennifer Leigh Warren (Rent: Live on Fox) as Emma/The Professor.
The ensemble will include Joan Almedilla (Miss Saigon), Reed Armstrong (Les Misérables), Ryan Duncan (Getting the Band Back Together), Linedy Genao (On Your Feet!), Charles Gray (Grease), and Mary Jo Mecca (Amour).
Igor Goldin (Yank!) will direct, with a creative team including choreographer Marcos Santana, scenic designer Adam Koch, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Cory Pattak, and sound design by Jay Hilton. Matt Meckes is music director. Casting for the production is by Paul Hardt of Stewart/Whitley Casting.
