Venus in Fur is a critically acclaimed and internationally celebrated play by David Ives. This sharp, seductive, and darkly comic play explores the intoxicating power struggle between a playwright-director and a mysterious actress who arrives late to audition for his adaptation of a classic erotic novel “Venus in Furs”.

What begins as a routine casting session quickly transforms into a charged battle, where the lines between rehearsal and reality blur. As they read the text, authority shifts, roles reverse, and control over the narrative becomes the ultimate weapon. In this intimate theatrical duel, desire, intellect, and storytelling collide, raising the question who truly holds the power, the one who writes the story, or the one who performs it?

THOMAS
male (cisgender or transgender), late 20s–40s: A sharp, articulate playwright-director who prides himself on his intelligence and artistic integrity. Controlled, meticulous, and slightly condescending, he believes he owns the room. Frustrated after a long day of failed auditions, he is impatient, exhausted, and certain no one understands his text the way he does. His authority masks insecurity and desire. As the evening unfolds, his confidence cracks, revealing vulnerability, obsession, and a latent hunger for surrender.
