Equity actors for roles in The Muny's 2026 Season (see breakdown).

Actors are cast on a per show basis and not as part of a repertory company. All performers are signed to an Equity MSUA contract.

Actors of all ethnicities, backgrounds, gender identities, body types, and abilities for all available roles are encouraged to audition. Local St. Louis, MO actors are likewise encouraged to audition.

Spunky, confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic, good-hearted idealist, she loves to sing and dance and is always on top of the latest trends. Unafraid to stand up for what she believes in, Tracy becomes an active supporter for the integration of The Corny Collins Show. Strong singer/dancer. VOCAL RANGE: G3 – G5.

[EDNA TURNBLAD] Character is female portrayed in drag. White, 40s - 50s. Tracy’s hard working mother who has lost her confidence. She dreams of becoming a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Great comic timing. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – G5.

[WILBUR TURNBLAD] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 40s - 60s. Tracy’s simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop. A true family man, he will do anything to support his wife and daughter. Good singer who moves well. VOCAL RANGE: A3 – A5.

[LINK LARKIN] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 18+ to play high school age. The heartthrob on The Corny Collins Show, Link is handsome, clean-cut, goodhearted and down-to-earth. While pursuing his dream of a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. [SEAWEED J. STUBBS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). Black, 18+ to play high school age. Cool, sexy, goodhearted, he unexpectedly falls for Penny. Strong, soulful pop singer and dancer. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – D5.

[AMBER VON TUSSLE] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 18+ to play high school age. Link’s girlfriend and Tracy’s nemesis. She is pretty, shallow, snobby, and used to getting what she wants. Always feels the need to be the center of attention especially when Link is present. Strong pop singer and dancer. [PENNY PINGLETON] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 18+ to play high school age. Tracy’s devoted, if a bit ditzy best friend. Bursting to be free of her mother’s dominating control, she falls for Seaweed. Strong pop singer and mover. VOCAL RANGE: A3 – G5.

[CORNY COLLINS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 30s. The charismatic host of The Corny Collins Show. Handsome, charming, engaging Dick Clark type. Strong pop singer who dances well. VOCAL RANGE: D3 – A4.

[MOTORMOUTH MAYBELLE] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). Black, 40s - 50s. Seaweed and Little Inez’s mother. She appears as the Guest DJ on the The Corny Collins’ Negro Day Show. Big, blonde, beautiful, and proud of it. She is bold, confident and ahead of the times. A strong soulful singer who moves well. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – E5.

[VELMA VON TUSSLE] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 40s - 50s. A former beauty queen, Amber’s mother, and producer of The Corny Collins Show. The upscale, attractive, manipulative former “Miss Baltimore Crabs” will do anything to ensure her daughter has the spotlight. Strong singer. VOCAL RANGE: G3 – E5.

[MALE AUTHORITY FIGURE] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White, 40 – 55. Doubles various comedic roles including Harriman F. SEEKING:

[SHREK] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary), age 25 - 45, any ethnicity. Our story's title character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. VOCAL RANGE: A2-G#4.

[FIONA] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), age 20 - 30, any ethnicity. The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. Excellent comedian that sings very well. Strong dancer, tap skills a plus. VOCAL RANGE F3-G5.

[DONKEY] Character is any gender (cis, trans, or non-binary), any ethnicity. A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad's guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek's looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also optimistic with heart. VOCAL RANGE: C3-B4.

[LORD FARQUAAD] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary), age 25 - 45, any ethnicity. The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princess to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. VOCAL RANGE: B2-D5.

[DRAGON] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), age 25 - 45, any ethnicity. A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. VOCAL RANGE: F3-Eb5.

[DRAGON PUPPETEER] Character is any gender, 18+, any ethnicity, to be a puppeteer. An actor who is a strong mover and can create multiple characters. Must have comedic chops. Professional experience with puppetry is a plus. Non-singing role.

[PINOCCHIO] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary), age 20 - 30, any ethnicity. The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. VOCAL RANGE: E3-F#4.

[YOUNG SHREK] Boy, age 7 - 10, any ethnicity. Young Shrek is 7 years old when his parents send him out into the world, warning him that because of his looks he will not have a happy ending. This actor will double as Fairytale Creature Baby Bear, the wide-eyed and precocious bear from Goldilocks. VOCAL RANGE: A3-C#5.

[YOUNG FIONA] Girl, age 7 - 10, any ethnicity. A bright little girl only recently locked in a tower, who passes her time reading fairy tales about being rescued by a handsome and charming prince. She is innocent and optimistic. This actor will double as a citizen of Duloc. Comedic, and sings very well. VOCAL RANGLE: B3-C#5.

[TEEN FIONA] Girl, age 13 - 15, any ethnicity. Now a teenager, Fiona has been trapped in the tower for a few years and has angst about not yet being rescued. This actor will double as a Fairytale Creature and/or other ensemble roles. Comedic, and sings very well. VOCAL RANGE: B3-C#5.

[ENSIGN NELLIE FORBUSH] Character is a female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White American, mid 20s. A spirited and funny Navy nurse from Little Rock, Arkansas. Beloved by her fellow nurses and Seabees, she is independent, optimistic, and virtuous. Much to her surprise, she falls in love with local Frenchman, Emile de Becque. Mezzo-soprano with strong belt. Strong mover.

[BLOODY MARY] Character is a female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). Tonkinese (Vietnamese), 40s. A shrewd, funny, and determined entrepreneur. Formerly an indentured servant to French plantation owners, she now runs her own business. Blunt, beloved, and clever, above all she wants a better life for her daughter. Strong mezzo-soprano. [LIEUTENANT JOE CABLE] Character is a male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). White or White-passing American, mid-20s. An idealistic Marine officer on a covert mission. Intelligent and honorable. Deeply conflicted, he wants purpose, connection, and love. Tenor. Excellent mover.

[LIAT] Character is a female (cis, transgender, or non-binary). Tonkinese (Vietnamese), early 20s. Humorous, competitive, open-hearted, she falls in love with Lieutenant Cable. She longs for safety, and stability amidst the war. Non-singing role. Strong, expressive contemporary dancer with excellent ballet technique.

[DAVEY] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 16 - 21 years old, any ethnicity. A thinker. Raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davey is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. Great contemporary tenor voice and excellent mover. [JOSEPH PULITZER] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 40s, any ethnicity. The boisterous forefather of William. F. Buckley Jr. and Rupert Murdoch. An on-point, know it all politician. Impolite and impatient with the world. Great singer. VOCAL RANGE: C3-F4.

[KATHERINE PLUMBER] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 17 - 22 years old, any ethnicity. The strong-willed daughter of Pulitzer. An ambitious, intelligent, confident young reporter, who works hard to make a name for herself as a legitimate journalist in a time when women aren’t taken seriously. Quick, funny, opinionated and resourceful. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt. Strong dancer, tap skills a plus. [CRUTCHIE] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 17 - 22 years old, any ethnicity. Jack’s best friend and a dedicated newsie with a “bum leg” from polio that causes pain, but helps sell more papes. A slight, sickly boy with a huge heart. He walks with the aid of a crutch due to a bad leg, but that doesn't hold him back from being right in the middle of any mischief. A real charmer. VOCAL RANGE: C3 – A4.

[MEDDA LARKIN] Character is female (cis, transgender, or non-binary), 40s – 60s, Black. A vaudeville star of the Bowery variety. Risque, tough, with a big voice and GREAT comic delivery. VOCAL RANGE: F3 – E5.

[LES] Boy, 10 - 12 years old, any ethnicity. The fearless kid brother of Davey. Excited by everything the world has to offer and eager to join in the adventure. Fun is this kid's middle name. Great singer. VOCAL RANGE: Db3 – Bb3.

Never the flashiest performer, but always the rock of the group. A stand-up guy, tough, with a big heart and deep conscience. BARITONE; Strong Dancer.

[DAVID RUFFIN] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s - 30s. Black. Lead singer of The Temptations after Al, helped take the group to the top of the charts. As electric on stage as “lightning in a bottle.” Maybe the most charismatic front man in pop music history. Doubles as Guard. LEAD TENOR; Strong Dancer.

[MELVIN FRANKLIN] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s - 30s. Black. Loved his Mama. The bass of the group and one of the first members Otis recruited. Nicknamed “Blue” because of his fondness for the color, Melvin was incredibly loyal to the group and, particularly, Otis. BASS; Strong Dancer.

[EDDIE KENDRICKS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s - 30s. Black. Friends with Paul since elementary school, Eddie created most of the group’s vocal arrangements and served as wardrobe manager. Outspoken. Loved cornbread so much, they nicknamed him “Corn.” STRONG FALSETTO; Strong Dancer.

[PAUL WILLIAMS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s - 30s. Black. No relation to Otis, Paul was one of the founding members of The Temptations and the group’s resident choreographer. Well-liked and kind, but unable to cope with his own demons. BARITONE; Strong Dancer.

Lively, shrewd and open-hearted, she pines after John Truitt, the boy next door. Alto/Mezzo.

[ROSE SMITH] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 18 - 25, any ethnicity. The oldest of the girls. A high school senior, aching to be sophisticated, she tries on various affects, often in broken French. She has a loyal, loving yet stubborn nature – and also a bit of a temper. Mezzo/Soprano.

[LON SMITH] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary), 18 - 25, any ethnicity. The oldest in the family and the only boy. Golden boy, Princeton freshman. He talks big but struggles in the face of conflict. Tenor.

[MR. ALONZO (LON) SMITH] Character is male (cis, trans, or non-binary), 40s-50s, any ethnicity. A strong patriarch, but a loving father who wants to do right by his family. Idealistic and stubborn, he shoots from the hip. Baritone.

[MRS. ANNA SMITH] Character is female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 40s-50s, any ethnicity. A good and loving mother with a firm but gentle hand. She is the voice of reason and practicality. Mezzo.
