DESCRIPTION

Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY is moving to expand their full time staff and is looking to hire a new Technical Director. Those with lighting/projection backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. This position is year round with benefits; starting pay $68,000 per year. As this is an entertainment venue, working in person on nights and weekends is common. We are easily accessible via train; but living within a 30/45 minute commuting distance is helpful.

The Tarrytown Music Hall–an 843 seat theater–is the oldest theater of its kind in Westchester. It is owned by a not-for-profit organization and its mission is three-fold: to provide diverse and relevant programming in music, theater, dance, circus, and film for the enrichment of the tri-state community; to promote arts education in an ever expanding capacity; and to preserve and restore the Hall so it can continue to strongly serve as a vibrant arts center and a catalyst for sustainable economic development for the community and surrounding areas.

The position of TD supports the mission by maintaining the theater’s technical assets as well as assisting in the improvements/updates of those assets. Assets include multiple performing and educational spaces, storage, house equipment (electrical/sound/rigging/soft goods), tools, and related stock. Being able to lift fifty pounds on one’s own goes hand-in-hand with the maintenance of our assets.

Safety is important to us. This position has a strong say in how the space provides a safe environment not only for our guest artists and audience members but–most importantly–for our employees. Safety includes following legal codes as well as being adept at planning ahead to maintain a supportive work environment and a healthy work/life balance.

Administrative responsibilities include assisting the production team with advancing and staffing shows, maintaining calendars and related production paperwork, creating work calls for maintenance needs, and organizing training sessions for new hires.

This is a management position; experience in such a role is required. Related to that: this position is front-facing and works closely with all full time staff, guest artists, professional over-hire crew, and many volunteers. Being front-facing works to better support the Hall’s mission and the community at large.

The work atmosphere being promoted is one of diversity, support, and genuine collaboration. Meetings with coworkers often involve questions that include: “How can we support each other better?” and “How can we pivot to support the community better in the future?”. The position would benefit greatly from someone ready and willing to have such conversations.

If interested, please send cover letter, resume, and reference contacts to: [email protected]

We look forward to hearing from you.
