DESCRIPTION
Casting a thesis table read for "The Court of Poisons," a stage musical.
La Voisin: 40-70. An outlaw abortionist in 1600's Paris running a secret network of midwives. Fierce, funny, and dangerously persuasive, she commands every room she enters… even as her need to save others costs her the one person she loves most: her daughter.
Casting Notes: BIPOC strongly encouraged. Think punk Mrs. Lovett, magnetic, volatile, and deeply human.
Synopsis: Beneath the gilt of Louis XIV’s Versailles, infamous midwife La Voisin runs a covert network of abortions, poisons, and forbidden rites that give women power in a world built to silence them. When the king’s fading mistress Madame de Montespan seeks black magic to keep his love, their pact ignites the Affair of the Poisons, a scandal so explosive it threatens to topple the crown.
Table read runs May 6 (10-11:30 a.m.) at NYU Tisch in NYC.
