The Alhambra Theatre and Dining will hold local auditions for “Shrek, the Musical” and “Saturday Night Fever” on Monday, April 13th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Video submissions for this production will also be accepted and considered on the audition date. The Alhambra provides professional compensation, round-trip transportation, and excellent accommodations for up to eight visiting artists per production. The Alhambra Theatre and Dining currently operates as a nonunion theater.

Times: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Vocal Auditions: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Everyone interested in dancing must attend the vocal auditions. Dance callbacks are only open to those invited back after singing.)
Dance Auditions: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM (All who are called back to dance will start with a ‘mover’ combination for 'Shrek,’ followed by a second ‘dancer’ combination for ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ Bring tap shoes if needed for ‘Shrek.’)
Prepare two contrasting vocal selections in the style of the show, each no longer than 32 bars. Bring sheet music in your key for the accompanist provided. Additionally, prepare a one-minute monologue that aligns with the show's style if requested during the audition.

A day-of sign-up sheet will be available at the auditions starting at 10:00 AM. We will see pre-registered auditionees first.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, ‘Shrek The Musical’ is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure. It brings beloved characters from the film to the stage and reveals there's more to the story. The tale begins with "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek..." and follows this unlikely hero on a journey with a wisecracking Donkey, a feisty princess, a short-tempered villain, a sassy cookie, and other fairy tale misfits, needing a hero—Shrek.

In this classic ’70s throwback, Tony Manero, a nineteen-year-old Brooklyn paint store clerk, spends his weekends at a local disco, where he shines as the king of the dance floor. Featuring the iconic hits of the Bee Gees and other classic disco tracks, this reimagined version of Saturday Night Fever takes you back to the era of disco balls, platform boots, and white suits. Burn, baby, burn!

“Shrek, the Musical” - Cast of 18
Character Breakdown
Shrek (25-45 / Basic Dance / Baritone - Tenor A2-G#4): Our story's hero. A big green ogre living as an outcast in a swamp, with a tough exterior hiding a lonely, soulful heart. Starts as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his true self and becomes a hero. Witty and commanding, with a Scottish accent preferred. The actor must wear latex makeup.
Donkey (20+ / Dance - Strong Mover / Tenor C3 - B4): Shrek's self-appointed sidekick. A talking donkey joins Shrek's adventure, chatting nonstop, not deterred by his looks, and pushing for friendship. Though frightened and pushy, Donkey is optimistic, charming, witty, and eager, hiding a deep desire for companionship.
Fiona/Ogress Fiona (Age 25-35 / Dance - Strong Mover, Tap preferred / Soprano F3-G5): Princess of Far Far Away, daughter of King Harold and Queen Lillian, she spent her life in a dragon-guarded castle reading fairy tales and waiting to be rescued. Beneath, she's a smart, outspoken girl who burps or fights when needed. She transforms into an ogre at night. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she's no ordinary princess. The actor will wear a latex nose piece.
Lord Farquaad (Age 25-40, Dance: Intermediate/Strong Mover, Tenor B2-D5): The short, ruthless Duloc ruler. A pompous, power-hungry villain with a Napoleon complex dislikes fairytale creatures and aims to marry a princess for the throne. Self-absorbed, lonely, cruel. Note: The actor performs all blocking and choreography on the knees.
Dragon (Age 18+ /Dance - Intermediate Mover / Soprano F3 - Eb5): A guardian dragon for Princess Fiona in her castle. She falls in love with Donkey, wanting to keep him forever. Imposing, flirtatious, but tired of her role as a babysitter. The actor will perform as Dragon ON STAGE, possibly controlling puppets or costume elements.
Young Fiona (Age 7 - 10 / Dance - Basic Mover / Soprano B3 - C#5): A bright little girl, only recently locked in a tower, who passes her time reading fairy tales about being rescued by a handsome and charming prince. She is innocent and optimistic. This actor will double as a citizen of Duloc.
Teen Fiona (Age 13 - 15 / Dance - Basic Mover / Soprano B3 - C#5): Now a teenager, Fiona has been trapped in the tower for a few years and has angst about not yet being rescued. This actor will double as a Fairytale Creature and/or other ensemble roles.
Young Shrek (Age 7 - 10 / Dance - Basic Mover / Soprano A3 - C#5) Young Shrek is 7 years old when his parents send him out into the world, warning him that because of his looks, he will not have a happy ending.
Fairytale Creature Ensemble (Ages 18+ / Dance - Intermediate with Tap / All Vocal Ranges): The Fairy Creatures, a diverse group of fantasy characters, were banished from Duloc by Lord Farquaad to Shrek's swamp, where they meet the ogre. They bring the story to life with energy in acting and singing, and may perform as an ensemble or featured dancers. Characters include Three Little Pigs (nervous, funny, German accent), Wolf (tough guy who likes dressing in Granny's clothes), Gingy, White Rabbit, Gnome, Peter Pan, Fairy Godmother, Ugly Duckling, Elf, Dwarf, Humpty Dumpty, Mad Hatter, Pied Piper, & Pinocchio.

Character Breakdown
Tony Manero (Age: 19 / Range: A2-G4) Handsome, charismatic Brooklyn Italian. Ringleader of his gang of friends, The Faces. Tough guy exterior with vulnerability underneath – a “thinker,” not a “talker.” He comes alive whenever he dances.
Bobby (Age: 18-20 / Range: C3-A4) One of the Faces. Genuine and less self-assured than the other guys. He breaks up with his high school girlfriend, Pauline at their urging, and continuously struggles with doing the right thing. Strong singer/actor who can move, Brooklyn accent.
Gus (Age: 18-20 / Range: E3-F#4) One of the Faces. A follower. Not afraid to lie to cover his own ass. Strong singer who can move, Brooklyn accent.
Double-J (Age Range: 18-20 / Range: C3-F#4) One of the Faces. A charming and funny jokester and a real bruiser. Physically, the toughest of the gang. Strong singer/actor with great comedic timing, who can move very well. Brooklyn accent.
Joey (Age: 20’s / Range: E3-A4) One of the Faces. A real “wise-guy” with possible connections. Strong singer/actor who can move very well. Brooklyn accent.
Monty (Age Range: 30-45 / Range: B2-G4) The MC, DJ, and gatekeeper of 2001. Good-looking and charismatic with a big personality. After Tony, the coolest person in town. Strong singer who can move very well.
Frank Manero (Age: 50-60) Tony’s father. An out-of-work construction worker who feels like the world has turned its back on him. Brooklyn accent.
Flo Manero (Age: 50-60) Tony’s mother. A devout Catholic, she cares deeply for her family, and especially idolizes her son, Frank Jr. Brooklyn accent.
Frank Jr. (Age: 20’s) Tony’s brother, who has left the priesthood. Humble and full of good advice. A strong actor with a Brooklyn accent.
Linda Manero (Playable Age: 16-18 ) Tony’s little sister. Sunny and spunky. Brooklyn accent.
Stephanie Mangano (Age: 18-20 / Range: Bb3-F#5) Puts on airs to hide her Brooklyn upbringing, but every now and then, a bit of the old neighborhood comes out. She may be pretentious and lack tact at times, but she is still genuinely likable. Strong singer/actor and dancer. Brooklyn accent.
Pauline (Age: 18-20 / Range: G3-E5) Sweet and optimistic ex-girlfriend of Bobby. She is hurt by Bobby’s behavior, but there’s a larger issue that’s concerning her. Strong singer, Brooklyn accent.
Annette (Age: 18-20 / Range: F3-C5) Overeager to please, a “puppy-dog” with an insecure edge. Is incredibly hurt that Tony does not have feelings for her. Strong actor/singer and dancer. Brooklyn accent.
Candy (Age Range: 25-35 / Range: A4-G5) The resident singer of 2001. Confident, sexy, and loved by everyone. Performs regularly at the club, requiring a powerful "Diana Ross'-style voice. A strong singer and belter.
Ensemble (20s-30s) includes a variety of features, including Fusco and Jay. Strong singers/dancers and dancers/singers of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities. Partnering experience with an emphasis on safety is a must for this production.
