DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Music Director for Rumours: In the Room, an intimate, actor-driven theatrical reimagining of Rumours with 5 performers. The production will be presented as part of a theatre festival at Paradise Factory (Lower Theatre), and explores the unraveling of a band’s relationships in real time through acoustic performance.

This is not a tribute concert—it is a fully staged piece where music functions as dialogue, confrontation, and emotional release.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Rumours: In the Room is performed by a cast of five actor-singers, including:

• one actor-musician on piano (onstage)
• one actor-musician on guitar (onstage)

The musical world is intentionally stripped-down and intimate, using piano and guitar to support a raw, emotionally immediate storytelling style.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create and rehearse acoustic arrangements of songs from Rumours for piano and guitar (9 - 11 songs total)
• Collaborate with the director to ensure music supports dramatic intention and storytelling
• Teach and refine tight vocal harmonies for a 5-person ensemble
• Rehearse actor-musicians (piano/guitar) within the staging of the piece
• Provide light rehearsal accompaniment as needed
• Support integration of music and staging during the rehearsal process
• Attend tech and performances as agreed

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong experience as a Music Director for musical theatre or cabaret
• Comfortable creating simple, effective acoustic arrangements (piano/guitar)
• Excellent ear for vocal harmony and blend
• Experience working with actor-musicians preferred
• Interest in intimate, story-driven performance over polished concert sound
• Collaborative, flexible, and responsive in a devised/rehearsal room environment

PROCESS & TIMELINE

• Rehearsals: preliminary meetings with the producer will begin virtually or in person with the producer soon upon hire. Rehearsals with the cast will be scheduled based on Cast availability throughout June.
• Performance: August 5 2026
• Location: Paradise Factory (Lower Theatre), NYC
