Synopsis: The View UpStairs, a bold and heart-filled musical by Max Vernon, is inspired by the true story of the 1973 UpStairs Lounge fire—one of the deadliest attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in U.S. history. When a young fashion designer from 2017 buys an abandoned building in New Orleans, he’s transported back to the vibrant world of a 1970s gay bar and into the lives of a fierce, forgotten queer community. Fueled by a gritty, glam-rock score and featuring a dynamic ensemble of unforgettable characters, this off-Broadway sensation is a time-bending journey through love, identity, and resilience. The View UpStairs offers actors powerful roles to sink their teeth into and invites audiences to celebrate queer joy while reckoning with the legacies of our past and the futures we dare to imagine.
Currently casting for the following role(s)
Patrick (Lead / Tenor)
Adult, non-equity, male-presenting actor of any race though we strongly encourage actors from historically underrepresented communities to submit.
Patrick is a young runaway hustler who projects innocence and fragility, though he is far tougher than he appears. He creates fantastic, imaginative stories as a way to soften—and survive—the harsher realities of his life. Patrick is the love interest of the show’s protagonist, Wes, a modern-day fashion designer who travels back to 1973. He has a rare ability to recognize vulnerability and sweetness in Wes that others might overlook.
