SYNOPSIS
The View UpStairs, a bold and heart-filled musical by Max Vernon, is inspired by the true story of the 1973 UpStairs Lounge fire—one of the deadliest attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in U.S. history. When a young fashion designer from 2017 buys an abandoned building in New Orleans, he’s transported back to the vibrant world of a 1970s gay bar and into the lives of a fierce, forgotten queer community. Fueled by a gritty, glam-rock score and featuring a dynamic ensemble of unforgettable characters, this off-Broadway sensation is a time-bending journey through love, identity, and resilience. The View UpStairs offers actors powerful roles to sink their teeth into and invites audiences to celebrate queer joy while reckoning with the legacies of our past and the futures we dare to imagine.
