BUCK BABE PRODUCTIONS is casting for their upcoming 29 Hour Reading of The Chequerboard Watch - a new shanty musical.


STORYLINE

Set against the stirring soundscape of sea shanties, The Chequerboard Watch tells the tale of a crew of sailors on a challenging voyage aboard the 19th century clipper ship, the Blue Jacket. At its heart, it is a story about unlikely friendships forged between mariners from different nationalities, races, and walks of life.


LOOKING FOR:

ANSEL (20-30’s) 22-year-old mixed-race Englishman in search of an open and accepting place. His mother, from Barbados, and father, from London, grew up loving Ansel and his free spirit. Energetic. Must be able to access Patois dialect Tenor.


ENOCH (20-35) African descent, born in England of immigrant parents, does not remember his life with his biological parents. orphaned at the age of 7 Enoch has taken a vow of silence. Baritone


MISTER FRANCES (40’s - 60’s) Born in Nigeria, taken at a young age with his parents to Britain. He tries not to make deep connections with others because he feels they might deter him from making this dream come true. Baritone.


KIT (25-35) KIT, Early-Mid 20s, Any Ethnicity, woman. Strong, spunky, first mate disguised as a man, a truth only few know but don't discuss. Seen as the Captain's right

hand, she is fair, and everyone looks to her for guidance, the smartest one in the room. Mezzo/Belt. Will also play role as FRENCH WOMAN.
